Mexico may call off rescue of 7 in boat capsizing

TIJUANA, Mexico

State Civil Protection Director Alfredo Escobedo Ortiz says officials from the navy, army and state are deciding whether to change the operation to a recovery of bodies.

Escobedo said Monday that divers are ready to search the sunken wreckage for bodies.

The 27 tourists and 16 crew members on a seven-day fishing trip were thrown into the Gulf of California early Sunday morning when a flash storm capsized the boat about 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of the port of San Felipe.

Nineteen fishermen, most from Northern California, and all of the crew have been rescued.
