Detective Monty Conley and Detective Joe Landin were killed in 1985 while investigating a drug case near Pixley. The detectives were in their police vehicle when another driver ran a stop sign and crashed into them.
Republican leader Connie Conway of Tulare authored legislation naming a section of Highway 198 in Tulare County between Road 204 and Mehrten Drive, will now be named "Detective Monty Conley and Detective Joe Landin Memorial Highway."
