Sutter Mining reopens operations for gold mining

AMADOR COUNTY, Calif.

Sutter Mining has re-opened operations at an Amador County mine. They expect to retrieve about a-third to a half-ounce of gold for every ton of rock they mine. Sutter Mining executives believe there's about $1 billion worth of gold out there.

"They say that only 10 percent of the entire mother load has even been explored so there is still a lot of potential in this region," said miner Holly Boitano. "I just have gold fever, it's kept me here."

That gold fever is hard to shake. The new mining expedition will bring jobs to about 100 people. Sutter Mining expects to pour its first gold bar by next summer.
