FRESNO, Calif.

The advisory board promotes California cherries in Japan. Only four cherry varieties were allowed to be exported to Japan when the board formed in 1992. Since then new varieties have been added that grow mainly in the Southern San Joaquin Valley.

Hull split in almond orchards is being seen across the state. It's a sign the nuts are ready for harvest.

The state's almond crop has been delayed by one to two weeks. This week, growers began preparing orchards for harvest.

There was also good developmental progress in walnut, pistachio, and pecan orchards.
