Fire crews contain a 20 acre grass fire west of Fresno

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif.

The fire started around 3:30, and quickly grew to three alarms because of the threat to nearby homes.

Fire crews say at one point the flames came within inches of some of those homes.

More than 80 firefighters helped to put out the fire at Shields and Polk avenues in Fresno County.

Many will stay on the scene for the next few hours to make sure the flames don't pick up again.
