Mog Jog in Merced keeps teacher's memory alive

FRESNO, Calif.

Runners, walkers, and bicyclists of all ages took part in Saturday's "Mog Jog" in Merced, in honor of Brenda Mognis.

The former first grade teacher at St. Paul Lutheran School died of Leukemia two years ago.

The first "Mog Jog" was held to raise money for the family during her treatment but after her death, a scholarship fund was set up to help students who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford to attend school at St. Paul.

"It's keeping her dream. And her hopes. And she's still here with us. It's just a great day today," Kristy Vincelette said.

"Brenda was an amazing teacher, an amazing mom. An amazing sister and amazing friend. And this was her dream," Marianne Daughdrill said.

About 200 people participated in this year's Mog Jog. A portion of the proceeds will also go to the American Cancer Society.
