Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin was on hand to check out the progress. She said, "We love it when people take a building like this and instead of knocking it down, they refurbish it. They reuse it and open it up for a modern but incredibly beautiful use."
Romi Baghgegian is the Pasadena based developer heading the project. He acknowledges the tough economy has been a challenge. "Things are moving along but in this economy it's very, very tough," he adds.
Businesses we talked to have a mixed reaction to the project. Arturo Montoya works at the Fresno Farmers Market. He said, "It will bring a lot more business for everybody." Elsewhere, we caught up with Ramiro Martinez with the Mural District.
