Madera County horse caretaker has a history of animal neglect

FRESNO, Calif.

The horses were seized from a home near O'Neals. Madera Animal Services says they seized them after noticing the horses dropped about 70 pounds.

Officers say the caretaker has a history of animal neglect but the woman's attorney says she was rehabilitating the animals for someone else with the full knowledge of animal control. The woman does not want to be identified. An investigation is underway, but in the meantime the animals need plenty of care. Madera Animal Services says they are on a tight budget. If you would like to make a donation to help the malnourished horses you can do so by writing a check to the Friends Of The Madera Animal Shelter on 14269 Road in Madera. The staff says bales of hay and grain can go a long way to helping nurse the horses back to good health.
