Fresno firefighters battle flames, pit bulls, power lines

FRESNO, Calif.

The fire started around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at a hundred year old home near Glenn and Belmont. Firemen had to deal with the biting dogs as they tried to douse the flames.

"We had pit bulls attacking our firefighters," said Tony Escobedo with the Fresno Fire Department, "along with that we had power lines down also on the same side so our firefighters were trying to not step on the power lines as they were fighting the pit bulls and fighting this fire."

Police and the dogs' owner helped stop the attacks. No firefighters were hurt. Their heavy uniforms protected them from the dogs teeth.

Everyone in the house got out safely. Firefighters aren't sure what started the fire.
