Crimefighters: Search for murdered musician's killer

PHILADELPHIA - September 17, 2011

"They have to speak up. Their child could be next and we don't want that to happen. You don't know the pain we're going through," said Gary Spangler, the victim's father.

It happened in Nov. 2009 shortly before 1:30 a.m., on the 7900 block of Craig Street in the Holmesburg section of the city.

In Nov. 2009, shortly before 1:30 a.m. Kenneth Huckstep, a 22-year-old drummer, was gunned down on the 7900 block of Craig Street in the Holmesburg section of the city.

He was shot nine times while walking home after practicing with his band.

Huckstep's wallet and cell phone were also taken at the time of the shooting.

"We know more now on Kenneth's murder than the day that he died. They say [the suspect] is a black male, medium build, who drove a black or purple Corsica. Other than that, we don't have anything else to go on," said Kathie Spangler, the victim's mother.

Because the gunman's description is so limited, the family is offering a $5,000 reward.

They hope it will jog some memories, and that someone will make an anonymous call.

"I want justice. He's not a person. He doesn't have a heart. Nobody has a heart who does something like that. I want this animal off the street," said Spangler.

Anyone with information on Huckstep's murder is asked to call 215-546-TIPS.
