A station in Clovis broke the Federal one-hour ozone standard Thursday afternoon.
That means the Valley Air District must pay a $29 million fine for an extra year.
Because of previous violations the Valley already has to pay millions of dollars next year. With today's violation it will pay those fines through 2013.
The violation also means Valley residents will spend another year paying $12 more at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
