Fresno Police Dept. earns national accreditation

FRESNO, Calif.

The department earned accreditation for the third time, making it the largest city police department in California to be honored for its work. The accreditation basically means Fresno Police policies are in compliance with national standards, and the department follows its policies.

Chief Jerry Dyer said it is necessary for police officers to maintain trust in the community. "If we are not consistent in our policies and practices, then we have an agency that is filled with hypocrisy and it is that hypocrisy that ultimately will cause us to lose the confidence and trust of our citizenry and we can't afford to do that.

FPD has now been accredited since 2005. The department has to reapply for accreditation every three years.
