The crash happened in Northwest Fresno near Brawley and San Jose around three o'clock Monday morning.
Matthew White is the man who was killed. Friends remember him as a man who enjoyed going to renaissance festivals.
Investigators say White was southbound on Brawley when he used a turn lane -- and pulled directly in front of the police car.
The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
