S. Valley police say safety in park improving

FRESNO, Calif.

Officers say they found 59-year old Agapita Torrez at Lincoln Oval Park with more than fifty vials of heroin on her, plus $200 dollars in cash.

She also had an outstanding warrant for her arrest on a separate charge.

Police say they've stepped up investigations in the area and even built a substation on that side of town to try to make the neighborhood safer.

"We concentrate not only on the park but on the Oval Park area and I think if you were to look at this area over the last 10 years there's actually been an improvement made in the area," Lt. Steve Phillips of the Visalia Police Department said.

Businesses at the park say they've noticed an increased police presence, but they say crime and drug use are still constant problems.
