A new home for a South Valley veteran

HANFORD, Calif.

Their new home is located in Hanford along Liberty Lane and it came without a price tag.

You see /*Justin Bond*/ is a combat veteran, a soldier who lost a leg in Iraq in 2004. His acute recovery took many months.

A year and a half later he returned to Hanford to find his old home a barrier to his safety and recovery. That is until "The Homes for Our Troops "organization chose him for a new accessible and safe place to live.

Justin Bond says it is a blessing for his family, "It's more than a gift and it's more than words. It's life changing. When you come into a home that's comfortable and you can get around you have your self-worth back. There's nothing like trying to get out of the bed and go to the bathroom and your wheel chair can't get around in the room. It's really disheartening."

Homes for Our Troops is helping this veteran in need one at a time. In this case it partnered with Valley home builder G.J. Gardner to build the Bond house, "There were so many people so many we couldn't have done just by ourselves. They were so many helpers. There were so many volunteers."

Other businesses followed suit with materials, landscaping and more. And the family also pitched in, even the couples' three, little ones. This veteran is overwhelmed with the support, "It's just been awesome to watch the community come out and G.J Gardner to come out and just volunteer night and day, over and over and over to build this house... it's very comfortable, the closets are huge and the rooms are big, they're bigger than standard rooms."

The Bond family will be settled into their home by Christmas and they are very grateful for all the people who made it happen.
