Poodle named "Clover" rescued in Madera County

FRESNO, Calif.

On Monday, a Good Samaritan saw the poodle mix dog through a fence in a backyard. It was tangled and tied with a rope cutting into its neck. The animal shelter says it appears the plastic rope was put on the dog's neck as a young puppy and never taken off or adjusted. The dog has been given the name "/*Clover*/". Police hope to charge the owners with animal cruelty.

"When we approached the dog he was very scared. We saw that the collar was embedded," said Animal Control Officer, Chelsea Roble. "When I reached to touch him to see how bad it was you know and I actually touched him -- he went to bite because he was in so much pain."

"Clover" underwent surgery to remove the rope from his neck. The vet says he is doing better Thursday night and is eating food.
