One person injured in Central Fresno shooting

FRESNO, Calif.

The shooting happened just after 10 p.m. Monday night near Griffith and West in Central Fresno.

Authorities say two men got into a fight in a common area of the Hunter Place Apartments. That's when one man pulled out a gun and shot the other in the chest. Police say the shooter got away.

People living in one part of the complex were not allowed to return to their homes for several hours as police interviewed witnesses.

"We do have some areas blocked off and the biggest reason is why is the protection of evidence which may be on the ground. So we are asking folks to stay out of the area presently and we'll get them back in their apartments as quickly as we can," said Lt. Tom Rowe with the Fresno Police Department.

The condition of the person who was shot has not been released. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
