The raid was spurred by a confidential complaint filed with the Hoke County district attorney and obtained by ABC News.
An animal rights group detailed conditions captured on hidden camera, by an activist who worked undercover at the Butterball plant for three weeks, earlier this month.
The group says the activist witnessed an ongoing pattern of cruelty to turkeys, which included employees kicking and stomping on birds.
Butterball is the largest turkey producer in the U.S. and accounts for 20% of total turkey production in the country.
Shortly after Thursday's raid began, the company released a statement, saying it has a "Zero tolerance policy for any mistreatment of its birds".
Butterball also said it was conducting its own investigation into the allegations.
