Hacker steals Symantec anti-virus source code

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.

A spokesman for the Mountain View-based company confirmed the hack in an email Friday. However, it added the breach involves products that are four to five years old. They were the Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 and Symantec AntiVirus 10.2. Symantec no longer sells the second product, but does continue to service it.

The spokesman says the hack does not affect the company's flagship Norton brand software for consumers.
