Dozens return home in Winton after pipes burst

MERCED COUNTY, Calif.

The water brought down ceilings at the Sierra Apartments Tuesday and 27 apartments suffered some type of water damage. The good news is most of the damaged units weren't occupied so most of the 100 or so displaced residents were able to return home Wednesday night.

The Red Cross set up a shelter to accommodate the displaced residents but that shelter will close at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Two of the occupied units did suffer significant damage. The Red Cross will be putting those families in a hotel for the night.
