Jan 24th Ag Report

FRESNO, Calif.

Ag experts say good rainfall last year is one of the factors contributing to a strong 2012 crop. California growers are expecting to produce almost 400-million pounds of avocados this year.

Ag experts say the higher volume will mean lower prices than last year. Growers will harvest in the next four to six weeks.

A low stock of Washington Apples is raising imports of apples and pears from Argentina.

Good demand for Washington tree fruit has left low stocks of fruit in storage, ao the U.S. is taking in more imports than last year. Ag experts say up to 30,000 boxes of apples and pears are expected to be imported into the U.S. this year.

Growers say the quality supply of imported fruit coupled with the strong demand will likely mean stable prices.
