Hundreds turn out to honor trailblazers

FRESNO, Calif.

The African American Museum hosted its 2012 Trailblazers event at the Holiday Inn, and 400 people attended, making it a sell-out crowd.

The event was held to recognize Black History Month, honoring not only the nation's trailblazers, like Dr. Martin Luther King, but also local pioneers.

"Here in the Valley, that's what the African American museum of San Joaquin Valley honors people that have done some of the same things they have done, the trailblazers, they're trailblazers in their fields and studies and help make a better community," Gregory Melancon of the African American History Museum said.

This year's Valley inductees include doctors, teachers, and even a Valley centenarian who will turn 101 this year.
