According to the Merced County Sheriff Department, Zachary William Johnson was arrested Wednesday after a pursuit that lasted over 30 miles.
Sheriff Pazin said multiple agencies were involved in capture.
The Merced County Sheriff's department said they will hold a press conference early Wednesday afternoon to provide additional details.
Johnson turned up missing during a routine headcount early Tuesday morning. After inspecting the dorm building, officers found a hole in the ceiling above a shower where they believe Johnson got out of the jail. They also found a blanket that had been tossed over the razor wire along the fence.
Johnson had been seen in his dorm around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, prior to his escape. He was in jail for evading police, hit and run, stalking, narcotics violations, and resisting arrest.
