The coroner's office says 37-year-old /*Felicito Escalante*/ and 45-year-old /*Maria Castorena*/ were killed when their Ford Escort crossed over into the opposite lanes of Highway 180 and slammed into a truck.
That truck was being driven by 49-year-old /*Maria Mendoza*/. She was also killed in the crash. The truck's passenger, /*Jose Perez*/, was the sole survivor of the crash. At last check, he remains in serious condition at Community Regional Medical Center.
The highway patrol has not yet determined a cause of the crash, but they say alcohol may have played a roll since investigators found beer bottles in and around the Ford Escort.
