The accident happened near Valentine and Shaw around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. The volunteer was reportedly crossing the street to sell papers when he was hit.
The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the driver of the truck involved in the crash was driving legally and tried to avoid the man.
Authorities say the incident should remind drivers and pedestrians to be careful on the road.
