The /*California Highway Patrol*/ says a big rig carrying 880 bags of potassium chloride was stopped across the tracks when the train crashed into it.

The impact sent the non-toxic substance all over the railway. Crews had to shut down the intersection for several hours as they cleaned up the area.

Officers say the big rig driver did not see the train coming or notice the crossing arms coming down on top of the truck before the crash.

CHP Officer Tom Nevarez said, "The cargo was on pallets so they're lifting up the pallets cleaning up the bags some of the bags are intact the ones that aren't they're scooping up the powder and getting it out of the roadway as quickly as possible."

The /*Amtrak*/ train sustained some front-end damage. It rerouted passengers back to Wasco before heading back up north.
