Niederfrank is charged with embezzling $73 thousand from Boy Scouts Troop 257 in Clovis.
Niederfrank is a Fresno insurance agent and served as treasurer of the organization from January of 2010 through January of this year.
The case first came to light back in February, when others on the troop's board were notified by their bank that there were insufficient funds in the Boy Scouts' account.
Witnesses told officers they believe Niederfrank has a "gambling problem" that led to the crime.
