Native American tribe approved to kill bald eagles

FRESNO, California

An application was filed in 2008 by an Indian tribe in Wyoming. After years of review, the US Fish and Wildlife Service gave its approval this month.

Last year, the tribe filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the government for denying the application, saying it was a violation of their religious rights.

The permit allowing a tribal take of bald eagles is believed to be the first of its kind.
