Business counting on snow this weekend

FRESNO, California

Jean Kilpatrick is looking forward to this weekend's winter-like weather. "We are really glad it's going to snow. It is Easter break so that will get a lot of people out here," said Kilpatrick. She says Cressman's General Store relies on travelers driving to China Peak to boost business. On Friday she stocked store shelves with winter gloves and snow chains.

Action News forecaster Reuben Contreras expects winter conditions at higher elevations. He said, "If you are going up to the mountains probably around 4,000 feet, you'll probably get maybe a foot of snow, a little bit less below that but be prepared for winter type travels in the mountains." Contreras says the Valley needs the fresh power to make up for the slim snow at the start of the season.

Judy Sickora with Shaver Lake Vacation Rentals says the skimpier than usual snowfall has hurt local businesses. "Snow is awesome for us. We've been without a lot of snow so business is down this year," said Sickora. Sickora says the prediction of fresh powder is already attracting visitors to the area."

Staff members at China Peak say the resort will stay open until April 29.
