Fresno County family wakes up to armed intruders

FRESNO, Calif.

The robbery happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at a home on East Shields and DeWolf near Clovis. Six people, ages 14-50, were home at the time.

The family told deputies the men kicked in their front door and awakened them by holding guns to their heads.

"They poked their faces with the barrel of a gun," said Fresno County Sheriff spokesperson Chris Curtice.

Curtice said the men then bound the victims' hands and feet with duct tape and threatened to kill them if they alerted authorities. That's when, he said, the suspects ransacked the home in search of cash, computers and jewelry and then took off with a number of items.

Neighbors told Action News, the neighborhood is normally quiet and they were shocked to learn a home invasion robbery occurred near their homes.

"Generally, it's been nice all these years I've lived here, around 40 years, we've had nothing really," said neighbor Bill Mills.

That was until around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Mills said, when he learned the suspects gained entry into his neighbors home. Mills said the family rents the space.

"There are a lot of people. A couple daughters, a son-in-law, a fair amount of people who live there and I guess they're open to the (extended) family too," said Mills.

While he's never had a problem with his neighbors, he said they have been known to hold loud, late night parties and it's common to see half a dozen cars parked outside.

"Lot of cars come and go, but they've been really good people," said Mills.

Other neighbors told Action News off camera they questioned whether it was an inside job.

Deputies spent Tuesday morning interviewing family members and asking if they could identify the suspects.

Curtice said investigators are working several leads, but so far no arrests have been made.

Meantime, neighbors remain on edge as the search continues for the four masked men.

The suspects are described as being young, white or light skinned Hispanic males. All were wearing black hooded sweatshirts and masks over their faces. They were also armed with handguns.
