Around 1:45 Monday afternoon the stolen vehicle collided with a UC Merced commuter bus.
Police started chasing the vehicle after running a check that showed the vehicle had been stolen back in January.
After the collision the suspect took off in reverse attempting to hit police officers. That's when officers opened fire shooting him several times.
The suspect was airlifted to a local hospital and is said to be in stable condition. The students and driver inside the bus were not injured.
The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
