Father Michael Burchfield says the cross was a gift from the Vatican. Much of his homily centered around how grateful the church is to have the cross back. "Thank you god, for shining your love upon us and allowing us to adore a relic of your true cross."
Father Burchfield says a woman returned the cross on Tuesday, saying she had found it in a field, but didn't realize it came from the church until hearing about the break-in on the news. She told the priest her water had been turned off, and she was going to use the reward money to get it turned back on.
