Right now, about a hundred firework stands in the city of Fresno are operated by nonprofit organizations, who use the once a year sales as a fundraiser.
Under the bill, sales would expand to one week around New Year's adding extra fundraising time.
A fireworks stand in Northwest Fresno is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Central High School Grizzlies Quarterback Club.
Central High Football Coach Justin Garza said, "These funds are a huge shot in the arm especially leading into a football season we're going to be starting in a month and a half and this goes anywhere from helping kids with meals, travel plans to guy gear, stuff needed for the program."
If approved, the bill would take effect in 2014.
Meanwhile, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District hasn't taken a formal stance on the issue - a spokeswoman told Action News expanded firework sales could have an impact on air quality over the winter months, when air quality is already bad.
