Undercover officers with Fresno's "Career Criminal Auto Theft Team" arrested 23-year-old Armando Real after police say he stole a white Saturn.
Detectives say Real was trying to sell the stolen car to a towing company. But he didn't know undercover officers were on the other end of the deal.
Because of their efforts, police say they've been able to curb auto thefts. Reports of stolen cars are down by 23 percent compared to this time last year.
Sgt. Tim Tietjen said, "We pose as brokers, we buy cars, we act like we're a chop shop or we get on craigslist and act as a buyer."
Despite this drop, Fresno still ranks number one on the list with the most vehicle thefts per capita in the nation, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
