Fresno Co groups, grocery store encourage healthy eating

FRESNO, Calif.

The Network for a Healthy California was at Gong's Market in Sanger offering food demonstrations and sharing recipes with shoppers.

The organization says the Latino community suffers serious health disparities such as higher rates of diabetes, obesity, and heart issues, and they want people to know eating healthier is possible, even on a budget.

"We really want to stress in our community how to make those choices. And how to make it easier for them to make those choices," Maria Zapata of Network for a Healthier California said..

In addition to the food demonstrations, free blood pressure screenings were also available at Gong's, and representatives from Cal Fresh were also present to help people determine if they're eligible for state assistance.
