Clovis Fire Department gets pet saving equipment

FRESNO, Calif.

All of the city's emergency responder units have just been outfitted with specifically designed oxygen masks for animals. Fire officials say they frequently come across animals in distress during fires.

The purchase of the new oxygen masks came from donations collected through the Clovis Firefighters Association.

"I don't know anybody who has a pet and doesn't consider them a part of the family," Clovis Firefighter Andy Isolano said. "It's devastating enough to have a fire and to lose a pay...this can save them its a small price to pay."

The same type of oxygen mask recently helped save the life of boxer named Elmo in Southern California. The masks come in three sizes, designed to help fit the biggest dogs to your smallest pets.
