Countdown to Big Fresno Fair begins

FRESNO, Calif.

Excitement is building at the Big Fresno Fairgrounds and so are some new exhibits.

"We're bringing a little bit of Hollywood to Fresno. We were able to acquire a cloud tank that was used in quite a few of George Lucas' film productions Indiana Jones IV, Titanic, Waterworld, things like that and what we've done is turn it into a fish tank," fair deputy manager Lauri King said.

During the fair, people will get an up close look at the 12 hundred gallon tank and the different fish on display at the Meyers Water and Wildlife Tree.

"So there will be catfish, king salmon and indigenous fish to Fresno county in there this year. So they are actually putting the finishing touches on that, building that," King said.

Also new - an expanded kiddie land in a park-like atmosphere.

"This year, we've actually expanded that area by 25,000 square feet. We're going to be able to add 11 rides. It's just a great place for families and young kids to be able to go and enjoy the carnival," King said.

The fair is also paying tribute to longtime fair supporter and horse enthusiast Tommy Brosi with a memorial waterfall at the horse track.

Fair organizers are also gearing up for nights of fun-filled entertainment. So far, the hottest selling concerts are Tyga, Ariana Grande and Chevelle. You can purchase carnival wristbands, season and passes and now food coupons before the fair begins for savings.

"There's over $150 in coupons in this little book. So it's really the way to enjoy food at the fair at a discount," King said.

Officials say they can't wait for the start of the Big Fresno Fair.
