Steve's Scholars program offers students help with college

FRESNO, Calif.

Francine and Murray Farber went to Tehipite Middle School on Tuesday to announce the details of their scholarship. They told students, if they graduate from high school, and complete requirements to attend college, they'll earn a $1,000 scholarship for two years to put towards college tuition.

The scholarship covers a full year at Fresno City College. Students can also use the money to attend an accredited four year university.

"What matters is not where you come from -- what matters where you're going," said Francine Farber.

Students must meet four requirements including maintain a 95 percent attendance record, and participation in community service activities each year.

The Farbers created the Steve's Scholars program in memory of their son Steven, who died unexpectedly of a heart defect 11 years ago.
