Police say before late Tuesday night Roberto Ruiz assaulted a customer outside the U-Save Liquor Store on Tulare near Maple in Southeast Fresno. When officers arrived, Ruiz ran into the store and barricaded himself inside.
Officers say they then got into a scuffle with him, and Ruiz punched an officer in the face. The officer is doing fine, but may have suffered a broken nose.
Police say Ruiz is mentally ill and already on parole for assaulting another police officer.
