A truck picked up the mammoth orange at a repair yard in Chowchilla on Saturday and drove it nearly seven miles to the Fossil Discovery Center of Madera County in Fairmead.
The iconic shell was part of a popular burger and juice joint off Highway 99 in Fairmead from 1954 to 2008.
That's when a highway expansion project forced the owners out of business.
The City of Chowchilla then bought the orange but never had enough money to do anything with it.
So the San Joaquin Valley Paleontology Foundation recently purchased the Mammoth Orange to go along with its Columbian Mammoth at the Fossil Discovery Center.
"We are going to set it here on this lot and start working to restore it so we might one day soon dispense fresh orange juice as they did in those years," Paleontology Foundation Past President Grady Billington said.
The Fossil Discovery Center celebrated the arrival of the orange by serving orange freezes. An effort is also underway to rename the road the center is on to Mammoth Parkway.
