Shoppers hit the internet for Cyber Monday

FRESNO, Calif.

Here in the Valley some residents clicked their way to big savings.

The biggest online shopping day of the year hit the web with deep discounts in the hopes of pulling in lots of shoppers.

Some Valley residents say Cyber Monday offers some great deals you could never find on Black Friday.

"The deals that I saw on sites such as macys and amazon that to me were a great deal because I didn't have to search for parking, I didn't have to get out of bed early, I could do it in my pajamas before I started work," Leon Kaye of Fresno said.

Whether you are shopping in your jammies or jamming through the mall, retailers know how to get the serious shoppers to do some serious shopping.

"I had a list mostly clothing and there were a couple of electronics and of course you get more curious and you just start clicking and clicking and it works because it's like walking into a Trader Joe's, you end up buying more stuff than you originally planned," Kaye said.

Consumers are expected to spend $1.5 billion dollars this Cyber Monday. That's up from last year, but experts say things have changed.

"The origins, it used to be we got to work on Monday, right after Thanksgiving, right after the holiday, we actually had access to broadband, to high speed internet and that's where the deals were, and now that's completely changed," retail shopping analyst Laurie Segall said.

With interent on your phones, your tablet and your home computer retailers don't want to miss out on any opportunity to get you to shop.

"They said Cyber Monday started yesterday. So I think they are coming out earlier," Kaye said.

Many shoppers are sharing their shopping experiences on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

With consumer spending making up 70 percent of the us economy and 40 percent of that happening in just November and December, retailers are hoping all those discounts and deals will pay off in a big way.

Experts say you can take steps to shop safely online. Make sure the website is secure, pay with a credit card and check your statements regularly.
