Three family members shot during home invasion in NW Harris County

HOUSTON

Tuesday was an emotional day for family and friends who gathered at the house on Fairway Drive near Gesser in a gated community where a group of unknown gunmen shot and injured three people during a burglary.

"I feel very bad, you know. I don't sleep for it," said Amarpal Sandsu, nephew of the homeowner.

According to relatives, four men disguised in black hoodies, pants and gloves barged into the family's house Monday night demanding money from a safe. Deputies say the crooks told the victims they knew the family owns several gas stations across town.

Family members tell us four suspects entered their home through the garage and demanded a safe. When they didn't get what they wanted, the suspects went back out into the garage and that's when the shots were fired.

"They came down and started shooting here," said one family member.

The family says they believe they were targeted because they own several Valero gas stations around the city.

"'Why do you have no safe? You have five gas stations and a Valero station.' She said, 'No safe,'" she said.

The youngest victim's neck was bandaged from bullet wounds when he returned home from the hospital Tuesday morning.

"Some people came, they tried to rob us and we got shot. That's all," he told us.

Relatives showed us the garage where they say the burglars first entered and began terrorizing the family before making their way upstairs to threaten others. One woman told us her 53-year-old husband was shot in the lower abdomen and is now in stable condition. A family friend is also nursing a bullet wound to the arm. Neighbors say they're concerned.

"The violence. you know, the significant violence, I mean it's over the top when it gets to that level," said neighbor Jim Hill.

Heron Lake Estates recently installed four security cameras at the subdivision's only entrance. A detective showed up Tuesday afternoon to retrieve that video. Neighbors are hoping it can help identify the gunmen.

"He is my best friend, he has been my best friend. A good person to be around," said Gagandeep Singh. "I have never had any neighbors complain about them. They are great friends. I don't know what kind of person could have done this."

Deputies told us the most seriously injured victim is the homeowner. His condition is upgraded now from critical to guarded. We don't know the condition of the third victim.

Family friends say children also live at the home and fortunately they were not hurt.

The suspects were described as four black males, ages 18 to 25 years old. They were wearing all black, had hoodies on and were wearing gloves during this incident.

Authorities say those suspects fled in an unknown vehicle. It's unclear whether the suspects got away with anything.
