Hong-Thai Yang is charged with attempted murder and a number of domestic violence related charges.
Neighbors living near Huntington and Lind Avenue called the cops around 4 p.m. Sunday saying Yang was hitting his girlfriend near a car and that the car was on fire.
Investigators say the violence escalated and that's when he tried to set her on fire using a can of gasoline.
Crews tell Action News her back was smoldering but she was eventually able to put out the flames by rolling on the ground.
The couple has a two year old. Action News is told he was not hurt and is with family.
