Rosaries for Newtown families blessed in Hanford

FRESNO, Calif.

Nearly 800 handbeaded rosaries were blessed at Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Hanford made especially for the children and families of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Volunteers began making the rosaries a few days after the December 14 shooting that killed 20 students and six teachers.

The idea came from Yvonne Silva who hopes the rosaries will provide some comfort for the people of Newtown. She said making the rosaries for the families of the young victims was especially emotional.

"The red ones and the blue ones. When I finished those and I laid them on the table it's like I laid them down to rest myself. And it was very difficult to know it was done," Yvonne Silva of Hanford said.

Silva is trying to raise enough money to personally deliver the rosaries to Newtown. She's hoping to distribute them by the time the children return to school after the holidays.
