Father seeks answers in hit-and-run death of son

FRESNO, Calif.

"He wasn't just a dog in the street, he wasn't livestock he was a human being, a child, my son."

David's father, Phil is overwhelmed with grief, yet wants to know what happened. "Knowing that somebody hit my son, my child and just left him to die in the street, I'm sure they heard about it on the news the next day because they probably lived in the area, and just not to say anything, it's just beyond belief, I don't understand how someone can do that."

The Fresno County Coroner's office determined David was killed by the first vehicle. The one that didn't' stop. Fresno police are working on finding the driver. Phil acknowledges his son was out walking, after a family gathering at his grandmother's house nearby. He knows his son was wearing dark clothing, and hard to see. He says he's not looking for revenge, just answers.

"I just want the person that hit him whether it was an accident or not just to take responsibility and give some closure to my family. We don't know what happened and that just hurts. Was he walking across the street was he on the side, did he get clipped, we don't know."

David Leanos was a sophomore at Cambridge High School. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday January 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Light at 1620 Belmont.

Donations to the /*David Leanos*/ Memorial Fund can be made through the Educational Employees Credit Union.
