Madera Co. man gets 35 to life in prison for fatal DUI crash

MADERA, Calif.

Today a judge sentenced Richard Farias to 35 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors say he was driving up to 110 mph while under the influence of alcohol and Vicodin when he flipped his Jaguar in 2010.

The crash on Avenue 14 in Madera killed Deborah Lyon and Marcel Rodriguez. The crash also injured Valentino Valdez.

The victims' family members hugged and cried in the hallway after the hearing.

Renee Deleon said, "It's pretty upsetting, but at least it's over and done with, and everybody makes mistakes, but he just made a really, really bad one."

Farias had been arrested twice before on DUI charges.

Today the judge also ordered Farias to pay one of the victim's parents $14,000 which the family requested so they could cover their son's funeral expenses.
