Recent rain making dent in Houston-area's drought

HOUSTON

Over three inches of rain has fallen this month Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport. It's even wetter is some surrounding suburbs. Many of our Eyewitness Storm Spotters have had over five inches of rain this month.

As a result, drought conditions in southeast Texas are not as bad as they were a couple of weeks ago. The northwest corner of Harris County and most of Montgomery County was severely dry before the rain started. The latest drought analysis from NOAA and the USDA indicates that area is now only moderately dry.

Over 20 percent of the state is still in an extreme drought, however. Less than an inch and half of rain has fallen this month west of I-35 and south of Corpus Christi. Rainfall is still very much needed in central, south and west Texas. And if the timely rain doesn't continue to fall around here at least every 3-5 days, we'll be looking for water too.
