Workers at Zacky Farms said the plant was closed today, but the good news is the operations will continue and employees will be able to continue working.
The company has been hit by rising feed prices and as we first reported in October. It filed for bankruptcy protection as it was a $100 million in debt and struggling.
It was up for sale, and turns out the highest bidder were the Zacky family's own trust, The Robert D. Zacky and Lillian D. Zacky Family which allowed the company to keep most of its employees.
The turkey plant has been in operation for more than 70 years. Products are processed and packed here at Zacky Farms, which is one of the largest turkey producers in the country.
The Chief Restructuring Officer Keith Cooper said, "I would like to personally thank all of the employees, customers, growers and vendors who have stood by Zacky Farms over the past 3 and a half months and have supported Zacky Farms during this challenging process."
The sale won't be official until next week. The sale is subject to approval by the Bankruptcy Court at a final hearing scheduled for 2:00p.m., Monday, January 28, 2013.
