Driver loses control, slams into apartment building

HOUSTON

Police say the car appears to have failed to stop at a dead end and slammed into the corner of the building on North Houston Rosslyn at Alabonson.

The vehicle crashed through a fence, flipped over and hit the corner of one apartment before it slid into a second unit.

The driver and a passenger were rescued from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were people in both rooms that were hit, all children under the age of 5. Fortunately, no one was injured.

"There is a bed in that corner and it just so happens that the children were not in that bed. They were in another bed in another corner of the room," said Roland Chavez with the Houston Police Department.

Both apartments are not inhabitable. The Red Cross is helping those families find a new place to live.

Authorities believe speed may be to blame for the crash. At this time investigators are not certain whether alcohol may have also played a factor.
