An 11-year-old is recovering after he was shot at a Southwest Fresno home in the area of Elm and North.

Police just wrapped up their investigation. The child is in the hospital and Police say he will be just fine. He was shot in the leg and should make a full recovery.

In the meantime, Police want to know what happened. They got a call about a shooting around 8:30 Tuesday night. When they arrived on scene they found a number of people in the backyard, where a band had been practicing. They said the child was also in the backyard, standing around when shots were fired.

"When the band members first heard the shooting, they ignored it. Five minutes later they heard another shot and that's when the child was hit in the leg. The child was taken to the hospital and is doing okay," said Jose Garza, Fresno Police Department.

Police worked to check the homes and businesses behind the backyard area. Investigators say they're trying to exhaust every possibility -- trying to figure out how the shooting happened.
